WILLIMANTIC, Conn. — Chris Beaudry, executive director of Willimantic Renaissance, Inc. and co-founder of The River Room Performing Arts Venue, received the 2026 Arts and Culture Impact Award presented by the Cultural Coalition of North and Southeastern Connecticut in partnership with The Chamber of Commerce of Eastern Connecticut.
The award was presented during the Chamber’s celebration on September 2 at Lake of Isles Golf Club on the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation reservation. It recognizes Beaudry’s work bringing arts, culture, community activity, and economic energy to downtown Willimantic.
Through Willimantic Renaissance, Beaudry has helped make downtown a gathering place for residents and visitors. The organization’s 3rd Thursday Street Fests bring live entertainment, vendors, local organizations, and thousands of people to Main Street each season. The River Room adds a year-round home for live performance, creating more opportunities for artists and audiences to connect in Willimantic.
A large delegation from Willimantic attended the celebration, including Willimantic Renaissance board members, members of the Willimantic Lions Club, State Representative Susan Johnson, and friends of the organization. Their presence reflected the community effort behind the programs Beaudry helps lead.
Beaudry also received an official citation from the Connecticut General Assembly. It praised his leadership with Willimantic Renaissance and The River Room for helping “breathe new life into downtown Willimantic” and creating opportunities for music, art, performance, and community connection. Congressman Joe Courtney presented a certificate of special congressional recognition honoring Beaudry’s leadership and dedication to eastern Connecticut’s arts community, including his work creating an intimate venue that spotlights Connecticut artists.
The awards program recognized leaders across eastern Connecticut. Other honorees included Ace Overhead Doors as Small Business of the Year; General Dynamics Electric Boat as Business of the Year; RJ Development + Advisors LLC as Community Revitalization Leader; Thames Valley Council for Community Action, Inc. as Nonprofit of the Year; and Thames River Heritage Park as Tourism Leader of the Year. The program also recognized Atif Faruqui of Turboflow AI Solutions as Volunteer of the Year, among other award recipients.
The Cultural Coalition is a regional nonprofit that supports arts, heritage, and creative communities across eastern Connecticut. Its recognition of Beaudry shines a bright light on the people and partnerships working to revitalize and enliven downtown Willimantic—and on the role that arts and culture play in bringing the community together.
