About WRI:
Willimantic Renaissance, Inc. (WRI) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 2002 as a grassroots effort to revitalize downtown Willimantic through the arts, culture, and community. WRI works to make Main Street a vibrant regional destination for arts, entertainment, shopping, and community life while supporting local businesses, artists, artisans, and nonprofits. Through our many projects such as the 3rd Thursday Street Fest, The River Room Performing Arts Venue, The Riverside Drive BlockToberFest, The Romantic Willimantic Annual Chocolate Fest, The Willimantic Winter Blues Fest, and more, WRI brings thousands of people from across Connecticut and beyond into downtown, creating opportunities for local businesses and artists while celebrating the diversity, history, character, and culture of the community.
At its core, WRI uses community events as an economic and cultural engine—bringing people together, driving foot traffic to downtown businesses, promoting local talent, and creating an inclusive space where people of all ages and backgrounds feel welcome. Its work is made possible through partnerships with the Town of Windham, local businesses, schools, nonprofits, media outlets, artists, and hundreds of community volunteers. Over the years, WRI’s events have grown from a small grassroots gathering into major regional attractions, drawing tens of thousands of attendees, providing exposure and sales opportunities for hundreds of vendors and artists, and helping strengthen the reputation of downtown Willimantic as a destination for culture, commerce, and community.
